Mpumalanga’s climate is as much defined by its geography as its location leading to slightly cooler conditions in the higher western escarpment versus the much warmer Lowveld in the east.
Summers are hot with temperatures ranging from 20° to 30°C. Summer is also the rainy season with afternoon thunderstorms being the norm. The sub-tropical climate receives a lot of rain in the summer making mosquitoes a bit of a problem in the warmer months.
Winters are mild but very dry. Temperatures drop to an average of about 8°C in the evenings and mornings but warm up to the high teens during the day. Night can be very cold at times so be sure to take some extra protection.
